To make sure you get the best results from your green herbal peel, please read these instructions carefully. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask your service provider. Following these instructions is very important. Not doing so could affect your results and increase the chance of problems. Your service provider may give you additional instructions based on your specific skin.
What to Expect After Your Peel:
- Peeling: Your skin will likely peel for 7-10 days, or possibly longer. This depends on factors like your skin type, age, the weather, your lifestyle, and hormones.
- Redness and Sensitivity: You might experience some redness, sensitivity, and flaking as your skin sheds dead cells.
-
Different Areas, Different Reactions: Your face, scalp, chest, back, arms, and legs may peel at different rates because the skin texture is different in each area.
Rough, Dark Patches: A few days after the peel, your skin might feel rough and have dark patches. This is normal and will go away. - Where Peeling Starts: Peeling usually starts around your nose and mouth, but it can begin anywhere.
- When Peeling Starts: Most people start peeling on the 3rd or 4th day after the peel.
- No Peeling: It's also possible that you might not visibly peel at all. Even if you don't see peeling, the treatment is still working by exfoliating your skin on a microscopic level.
- Possible Side Effects: You might have redness (mild to extreme), temporary tightness, itching, swelling, and dryness, like a sunburn. These usually go away in 2-3 days. If your skin is very irritated, your service provider might recommend a hydrocortisone cream like Vanicream HCⓇ.
- Cold Compress: You can gently apply a cold compress to your skin if it burns or feels irritated.
What to Avoid After Your Peel:
- Heat and Sun: Avoid excessive heat and direct sunlight (including tanning beds and self-tanners) for 4 weeks after your peel.
- Strenuous Exercise: Don't do any hard exercise for 2-3 days after your peel.
Sweating: Avoid sweating too much until you're done peeling, as it can irritate your skin and cause blistering. - Acidic Products: Don't use products like retinoids, Retin-AⓇ, acne medications, AHAs, BHAs, benzoyl peroxide, vitamin C, lightening agents, or exfoliating scrubs for 2 weeks (or longer if your skin is sensitive).
- Hair Removal and Facial Treatments: Don't tweeze, pick, rub, exfoliate, wax, use hair removal creams, get electrolysis, or have facials, laser treatments, or IPL for 4 weeks after your peel.
- Hair Dye: If you had a peel on your face or neck, wait until a week after you finish peeling to dye your hair. For most people, the third week after the peel is best.
- Cold Sores: This treatment can trigger cold sores. If you are prone to getting them please get on an antiviral medication before your session.
How to Care for Your Skin After Your Peel:
- Gentle Cleansing: For 5-7 days, wash your face with COOL water and your fingertips only. Don't use washcloths, loofahs, or any abrasive tools. Your service provider may recommend a gentle cleanser like Revision Gentle Cleanser, Dove Unscented Bar Soap for Sensitive SkinⓇ, AveenoⓇ, CetaphilⓇ, CeraVeⓇ, or VanicreamⓇ.
- Moisturize Often: Dry skin can be uncomfortable. Use SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective GelⓇ and SkinCeuticals Epidermal RepairⓇ to help your skin heal. For strong peels, you can use petroleum jelly for a few days. Once you start peeling, use a non-comedogenic moisturizer like AveenoⓇ, VanicreamⓇ, CetaphilⓇ, or CeraVeⓇ. Moisturize several times a day. Your service provider might also recommend a hydrocortisone cream.
- Protect Your Skin: Avoid heat and sun. If you go outside, use an umbrella or wear a hat and sunglasses. Use a physical sunscreen with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, like SkinCeuticals Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50Ⓡ or Colorescience SunforgettableⓇ. Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going outside and reapply every 2 hours. Your service provider may recommend different sunscreen products.
